Harlaxton Manor and the Historic Lincoln Trust are delighted to announce a unique series of events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Winston Churchill and celebrate the genesis of the ‘special relationship’ between Britain and the United States.
On the morning of the 23rd October, between 10:00 and 13:00, there will be a symposium on the subject of the ‘Special Relationship: Past and Present’. Panellists will include Lord Boateng (former Labour Cabinet Minister and British High Commissioner to South Africa), Dr James Greenhalgh (University of Lincoln), Mrs Mary Jo Jacobi (former aide to President Reagan and Assistant Secretary of Commerce under President George HW Bush), Allen Packwood (Director of the Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge), Ambassador Mitchell Reiss (American diplomat, academic and business leader) and Professor Kevin Ruane (Professor Emeritus of modern History at Canterbury Christ Church University). Further details will follow.
Entry to this event includes access to a special display of Churchilliana from a largely hitherto unseen private collection “Meeting Winston Churchill’. An introduction to his life and leadership, 1874-1965. Come and see some highlights from one of this country’s biggest private collections of Churchilliana, on loan to Harlaxton. Meet Winston Churchill’s waxwork, see one of his paintings and find out about different aspects of this remarkable man and his wartime leadership through a unique display of cartoons and artefacts.
